Thesis topic

my thesis topic is "Identity in pop culture using reductionism"

My thesis topic came from the projects I was exploring in my junior year's type class with Gen.

we were exploring the topic of language.

and I was very much interested in the topic of identity. The identity of self, self recognition, collective memory on events...etc.


This was the starting point of how to go about the subject.

so i designed the Logo, all the t-shirts, lookbook, linesheets, the website....just about everything.....

the mykromag.com logo

so im re-designing the look and feel of the logo for my friend's online magazine
MYKROMAG.

The first one is their original one,
and the second one is the one I fixed. I first fixed some kerning issue and then I fixed the Y so it looks wider so it has more space.
then the angel of the "M" as it looks more unify with the angel of everything and I fixed the width of the "G" so it looks more of the same size and it doesn't look so squashed.

Clothing Tags for the Tshirt line

This is a real collection we will launch for New York Fashion week.
a line of graphic tees.

this time we collaborate with Mick Rock....

we are using his images and I am doing the graphic for the tee
as well as all the identy.

the logo "Prince Peter" is an altered "Brilliant "type face as well as the sizes.
the "Mick Rock" is Times New Roman
as well as the body copy(blend, copyright...etc)
and the washing instruction is "franklin Gothic"


this tag will be screen printed in the inside of the tees.
and the sizes will be mark off according to the sizes of the tee.

I will re-draw the logo (the "Y " and the italic "M")

other ones are type face selection for display and body type for the mag.
still trying to figure out.

i will make an editorial mockup to see what works or not.

the big "g" (times new roman)however, i think go with the logo very well.

Statement

1/ the topic: explore minimalism and reductionism in design term.

2/ intention: everything can be minimal and simple and / or to be reduced to a very simple form, and still communicate ideas in a interesting way.

3/ purpose: to create and develop a personal style and to create art objects.

(((A)))graphic design as art : Things I design doesn't have to direct represent a certain meaning or direct communication with the viewer.

(((B)))commercial production: to create and develop a personal style.

EVERYTHING I DO SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE IDEA OF "IDENTITY" (either personal, psychological, social / culture )

SORRY!!!

Sorry I have been busy with the summer classes and I haven't been updating the blog.
I will catch up with it by this weekend.

I am working on some individual projects....

1. the blog (x the magazine) - which I have been updating contently
2. a t-shirt line (www.princepetercollection.com ) I am doing the branding, art direction for the website(the website will be renew) and the t-shirts.
3. planning on shooting some video arts.
4. I will be doing a print issue for my friend's online magazine : Mykromag.com
I am not involve in the online issues....yet. But they want to bring me on and work on a print issue with them.
5. I am designing a logo and a simple website for me and sister's fashion label.... its not a real thing yet, because she's the only one who's actually designing cloth right now, but my dad insist to register our name(brand) in China first.(my dad makes woman's high heels in China)

I have been doing this for quite a while now...

I am planning on doing a magazine with couple of friends.
and the original idea is to publish graphic design, photography, fine art, illustration...etc works from our school that I find interesting.

they do not have to have connection with each other but more of just random images.
the concept is....as if you would browsing websites to websites....from tabs to tabs.....
in the age of internet and we constantly expose ourselves to mess information...
the idea of the magazine is to mimic this randomness of the information we receiving.

but, that just one aspect of the magazine.

we also want to create / add on fashion elements to the magazine besides graphic design, fine arts and illustration...... think newwrok magazine.

with these ideas as a starting point of the magazine.

I started a blog with my fashion stylist friend Marc Sifuentes, using this blog we created as a platform of constant idea and information exchange between us and hopefully everyone else(in the long run.)

but, in the couple of month, I'm aiming of getting more contributors to the blog, collecting news and information.

On the side, I will be creation a print issue of the magazine.
Me and Marc are also planning and doing fashion / beauty photo shoots that will be featured in the magazine.

hopefully the first issue can come out by the end of the summer.

1st,
I would like to state that.....I'm still looking for that topic for my thesis.

2nd,
my interest is broad. But I would like to focus on the exploring of identity, language barrier and explore reductionism in design term.

3rd,
I would like to do graphic design as art. Not as commercial production purpose.

4th,
I just got back from a month long traveling to Europe. I would like to start designing something that's based on and out of this trip.

5th,
I will be continue working on the translation project I started last school year.
